Microsoft 365 for Educations Rilis Batasan Cloud Storage

Microsoft 365 memiliki banyak versi yang perlu untuk diketahui sebelum berlangganan, salah satunya Education yang diberikan untuk institusi yang bersangkutan. Nah ada kabar yang kurang baik datang dari versi Education, yang mana akan ada batasan untuk Cloud Storage yang diberikan oleh Microsoft.

Mulai bulan Agustus 2023 yang mana jatuh di bulan ini, Microsoft akan memberlakukan institusi pendidikan yang berlangganan atas penerimaan penyimpanan maksimal hingga 100TB. Tetapi jika pengguna membayar biaya untuk langganan A3 dan A5.

100TB sendiri merupakan gabungan dari OneDrive, Exchange dan SharePoint. Juga mulai 1 Februari 2024 nanti, pengguna Office 265 A1 akan mendapatkan batasan hingga 100GB penyimpanan di OneDrive.

Meskipun memberikan batasan untuk jumlah penyimpanan yang mereka hadirkan, namun hal ini masih cukup baik ketimbang pengguna standar yang bahkan memiliki limit lebih sedikit.

Melalui laman komunitas, Microsoft juga menyatakan alasan mereka mengapa memberlakukan hal ini. Berikut penjelasannya:

This is not sustainable from a cost or environmental sustainability perspective, and it puts education institutions and their students at risk for a data breach. Today, education is the most affected industry by cybercrime, with K12 receiving  over 80% of workplace malware attacks alone.  

From a sustainability standpoint, stored files no longer in use have an impact on our carbon footprint with over half of all data stored by organizations not serving a useful purpose.

Storage of this “dark” data takes up space on servers and results in increased electricity consumption, generating 4% of global greenhouse gas emissions in 2020 alone.2 Microsoft is committed to both the security and privacy of school and student data as well as reducing our collective carbon footprint. Already, our datacenters are built with the highest environmental standards in mind. With this change, education customers can help do their part.
